I hope FinAid reads this article, realizes what an enormous loss the student mentioned was for this campus, and offers him an affordable aid package so that he may make many happy returns, if he so chooses.

James - those come from separate funds. You can't compare teddy bears and helicopters. When Higdon asks for donations from our wealthy alums, they need to want to direct those donations to the right causes - so those causes need to be promoted as our #1 priority (financially supporting its students, giving students who aren't from the top 1% of the US income bracket the same opportunities as those who are.).

Let's not forget that boasting that 40% of our students are on financial aid means that 60% can afford this school. We've got to keep our school looking nice. But maybe start promoting it less as 'friendly' and pristine and more as a serious place dedicated to give everyone an equal opportunity to learn.

College Improvements are necessary investments--there was a serious erosion problem with the old library green configuration, so when they fixed that, they made other changes too. Deferred maintenance can cause serious problems down the line.

Does anyone know how much was spent on the walk way in front of the library? How many such students could we have helped out with that money?
