I think Donald's point was not to show how these things are awful and can't be appealed, but that they're ridiculous to begin with and shouldn't have to be appealed. Couldn't they note that an English major logically would have completed WI and WE by taking the required 120 and 220 courses for the major? Or that a philosophy major logically would have fulfilled the philosophy requirement just by being a major? It's sillyness that should be resolved on their end before students have to even go through the process of appealing. There's no reason why those things couldn't be resolved right within the Registrar's office.

You can easily appeal these things. Almost half of my requirements were filled by taking courses outside of those designated specifically for gen ed.

Followup on my issues with WI and WE -- I looked back on the course schedules for the past two years, and every single English class I've taken for the major fulfilled either WI or WE. Several other classes as well. Makes me laugh/cry. God, I hate paperwork.
