I spend roughly half of the year in Old Saybrook, CT. It’s quiet, relatively safe, and I have few problem about the town. (My biggest complaint is the intrusive, rude, and unprofessional police department. But, I digress.) In this small community, rumors of Barack Obama purchasing property in the borough of Fenwick. However, theseare unfounded:
The White House said Friday afternoon that rumors the president is considering the purchase of the 8,300-square-foot brick home in the posh Fenwick section of Old Saybrook are simply that: rumors. […] ”Incorrect” and “not true” are the words used by a White House spokesman in response to a Hearst Connecticut Media Group report that the president might be interested in the late movie star’s place after the owner of his Martha’s Vineyard rental sold the property.
But the current owner, New York construction executive Frank Sciame, who bought the 1938 brick mansion with his wife, Barbara, for $6 million in 2004, was neither confirming nor denying it. […] According to records of political contributions, neither Frank nor Barbara Sciame gave Obama’s presidential campaign money during the 2010 election. In the 2004 presidential cycle, they both gave $2,000 to the re-election effort of Republican President George W. Bush.

Some residents fear that an increased Presidential presence would cause congestion and traffic problems for our small town. However, these people forget that Sasha Obama visited Old Saybrook earlier this year. Police notes reveal that this visit went on without a hitch:
Sasha Obama was in town and the department worked with the Secret Service assisting them with security. Chief Spera provided an escort when needed as he has the security clearance to do so. There was no media involvement; she was even able to go to Dairy Queen twice without incident.
I take issue with how the police department in Old Saybrook operates, but that is irrelevant to this matter: the Obamas should consider purchasing a home in Fenwick. Aside from being the first black president, the Obamas would be the first black family living in the borough of Fenwick:
As of the census of 2000, […] the racial makeup of the borough was 100.00% White.
Minorities make up less than 5 percent of the town’s overall population and the town is overwhelmingly politically conservative. Although only symbolically, I think it would be amazing for the Obama family to provide Old Saybrook with some much-needed diversity.

Further, I would love to swing by the local Burger King for a late-night run with friends and see Obama and Michelle talking to our favorite drive-thru worker. That would be cool.
