Rodmon King Accepts Job as New Dean of Institutional Equity and Inclusion

After a semester-long search, on Nov. 30, at 11:00am, Connecticut College President Katherine Bergeron sent an email announcing the impending arrival of Rodmon Cedric King as the next Dean of Institutional Equity and Inclusion (DIEI). His term begins on Jan. 31, 2021.

King, who spent the last three years as the Chief Diversity Officer and Director of the Institute for Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Transformative Practice at SUNY Oswego, brings two decades of experience in higher education with him to New London. Previously employed by Hobart and William Smith Colleges as a philosophy professor, he then transitioned into an administrative role at Centre College as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Diversity Initiatives before moving to Oswego. His most recent work was centered around launching a three year Grand Challenge on Race, Racism and Social Justice, while designing various new programs surrounding Equity and Inclusion.

The search for a new DIEI consisted of a conglomerate of faculty, staff, students and members of the board of trustees, and was chaired by Professor Maria Cruz-Saco and Dean Erika Smith. King will be replacing Interim Dean Ari Rotramel, who has held the position since the beginning of the fall 2021 semester, and will remain until King arrives on the other side of winter break.

King will first visit campus on Dec. 6 and 7 to meet with the campus community and begin assessing his new position.

Interim Dean Rotramel was unavailable for comment. Rodmon King was unavailable for comment.
