Who are the Trustees?

The members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) are coming to campus on Friday, February 24, to discuss the recent unrest on campus after the cancellation of a fundraising event at the Everglades Club and the resignation of the head of the DIEI division, Dean Rodmon King. Open forums for students, staff, and faculty will be held at separate venues on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. But who is on the Board of Trustees and how did they get there? Digging through the College’s website and reading the school bylaws, we compiled a quick overview of the Board and the bios of each member.

The BoT’s “Charge and Statement of Responsibilities” states: “As a duly elected body, the Board of Trustees has fiduciary responsibility for the governance of Connecticut College. The Board’s primary functions are to oversee the policies and to steward the financial, physical, and human resources of the College. It is the responsibility of each trustee—acting as one body—to understand the current needs of the College and to implement policies and plans for its future.”

Trustees are nominated (it’s unclear by who) and then elected by a vote of the existing members. They serve 4-year terms and can serve two consecutive terms before a required one year break. However, there is an exception for those serving as Chair or Vice Chair. After the one year has elapsed, the former member can be reelected again by the existing members of the BoT.
