Letter from the Editor

It has been a stormy start to the spring semester, as a soft layer of snow currently blankets the campus during the barren days of February. Deep in the depths of the coldest time of the year, it feels like often we are barely hanging on trying to stay warm, healthy, and on top of classes. We at The College Voice sincerely hope everyone stays strong during this tough stretch of the year. This edition is packed with more than enough content to help pass time sheltering from the cold.

In News, current events are front and center, with News Editor Theo Andres covering the recent preparations CC Students in Solidarity with Palestine has undertaken prior to the upcoming Board of Trustees from a divestment vote on military weapons manufacturing companies on February 21. The Government & International Relations Departments’ recent panel “The Politics of the Second Trump Administration” is covered in great detail by contributor Julia Pelczarski ‘28. Contributor Celeste Flosman provides an important update on Cro construction and the partial completion of the pedestrian promenade three months after her first update.

In Arts, Opinions Editor Claire Hlotyak highlights The Acting Company’s performance of August Wilson’s “Two Trains Running,” in their national tour stop at Connecticut College on February 7. Exchange student Lilli Argast provides an informative preview of the Theater Department’s upcoming musical “The Prom.” Contributor Elaine Sandoval Carrasco ‘28 highlights the innovative approach Associate Professor and Judith Ammerman ’60 Director for the Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology Nadav Assor has adapted on AI to help improve the student learning experience. Columnist Nicholas Demarco provides a tasty review of Julia Child’s autobiography “My Life in France.”

In Opinions, Opinions Editor Mia Whipple provides her take on the recent TikTok ban and appeal by recently inaugurated President Trump. Contributor Eliane offers their views on the implications of the Trump administration’s initiatives on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Contributor Becker Kotob offers a unique perspective on the recent history and reconstruction efforts in Syria. On a more local perspective, contributor Finley Regan ‘27 articulates their opposition to the AI@Conn Program. An anonymous contributor discusses their issues with the CC Students for Palestine organization.

In Sports, Sports Editor Lilla Kate Tucker highlights men’s basketball captain Elias Espinosa ‘26 in the recurring Camel of the Editon column. Sports Editor Luke Corless provides an in-depth recap of the NFL playoffs leading up to the Super Bowl. Corless and Tucker also highlight the men’s basketball team in the Southeast Scoreboard column.

In Entertainment, Cruciverbalist Erica Smith provides a tricky crossword puzzle for anyone eager for a challenge.

Last but most certainly not least, I am pleased to announce a new addition to our staff! Garrett Clar, a first-year from Victor, N.Y., has joined our team as a Podcaster. Online through our website and on our Spotify, you can find Episode 1 of his new podcast show, Camel Sports Corner.

As always, we are looking for new contributors, writers, and layout editors, so if you would like to get involved, please reach out to us at thecollegevoice@conncoll.edu, join our ConnQuest roster, or come to a TCV meeting!

Wishing health and happiness,

Kevin Lieue
