On Friday, February 14, the smell of pungent roses and stale sweethearts candies floated all the way from the extra long line at the Post Office to the Valentine’s Day Chocolate Pairing Station in Harris. For Camels on the hunt for love this February, look no further! Here is our list of romantic Connecticut College date ideas that won’t make you sacrifice a Lyft pass:
1. Go on an Arboretum Tinder Walk
Do you have a special someone in your life who you have never actually met? Have you been talking online for an uncomfortable amount of time? Do you avoid eye contact when you run into each other in the dining hall? You might want to consider going for a walk together in the Arboretum. On a walk in our beautiful 750-acre campus arboretum, you will have plenty of time to run out of things to say to each other. Be safe, though! Running away is not allowed in the main section of the arboretum.
2. Enjoy a decadent Harris Sunday brunch
If you ever wake up on a Sunday morning and think to yourself, “I can’t wait to eat weirdly-textured scrambled eggs under the glare of some very intense fluorescent lighting while I run into every single person I know,” just imagine how much better the experience could be if you were also on a date. Everyone is judging you. Everyone knows you’re on a first date. They are all laughing at you.
3. Wait for a SEAT Bus together
Who knows when or if it will come!
4. Watch the sunset from the docks
On a beautiful, brisk evening, there is nothing more romantic than a beautiful view of the water from our newly renovated docks.
Edit: Please avoid the docks until we stop getting reports of bird flu by the water.
5. Exchange books in Shain Library
Just be sure to keep your voice down! And wait, is it on the third floor or the second floor? This could take a while…
6. Take a campus tour
If you’re interested in local history, you’ll be thrilled by all that our campus has to offer. Did you know that Knowlton House is located right next to Harkness House which is located right next door to Jane Addams House which is actually CONNECTED to Freeman House?
7. Join an ultimate frisbee practice
There is essentially never a time they are NOT practicing.
8. Serenade your date at the Harris Atrium piano
Now would be a great time to refresh your middle school piano skills. Even playing “Chopsticks” can be impressive if you use enough sustained eye contact. Fair warning, you may become a part of the YikYak discourse of the week.
