Letter from the Editor – 2/26

It is hard to believe we are approaching the halfway point of the spring 2025 semester, especially because this is my final semester at Conn along with my fellow graduating seniors. As our glorious two-week-long spring break nears, campus is buzzing with a mix of excitement and anxiety about midterms. Join us TCV staff in our prayers for warm weather and a special appearance by Noah Kahan at Floralia while you peruse this lovely spring edition of the newspaper.

News Section Co-Editor Theo Andres recaps the Government and International Relations Department’s event featuring journalist/author Spencer Ackerman talking about his book “Reign of Terror: How the 9/11 Era Destabilized America and Produced Trump” in connection with current politics. Finley Regan ‘27 writes on another event joint-hosted by the College and the Center for Housing Equity and Opportunity, the [Un]Freedom Colloquium, centered around issues of inequality here in New London. The editorial board also breaks the news on the Conn Board of Trustees’ recent “Statement of Investment Principles” in response to student groups calling for divestment from military weapons manufacturing companies.

Opinions Section Co-Editor Claire Hlotyak makes the case for why Conn should have a designated makerspace, encouraging student creativity and giving everyone the chance to experience the fine arts before they graduate. Also in the Opinions Section, read juniors Ava Carter and Anneli Medina’s conversation with two students who spent the last semester abroad in Denmark, part of our Camels Abroad series.

Arts Section Co-Editor Mia Penasa vividly describes the Dance Department’s recent Student Works Show, while Arts Section Co-Editor Emma Dinkelspiel provides a list of fun on-campus date ideas, complete with a romantic Harris Atrium piano serenade.

The spring 2025 athletics season preview is detailed by Sports Section Co-Editor Lilla Kate Tucker. In our Camel of the Edition series, Co-Editor-in-Chief Kevin Lieue interviews senior swimmer and team captain Claire Hoffman. Luke Corless, Sports Section Co-Editor, covers big moves in the NBA trade deadline deals. Sports fanatics should make sure to continue to check out our podcast, “Camel Sports Corner,” spearheaded by varsity basketball player Garrett Clar ‘28 in collaboration with basketball team manager Nate Polakoff ‘27 on Spotify and the TCV website.

Finally, take a puzzling break with Cruciverbalist Erica Smith’s crossword, Wordle, Conn-ections, and Strands games. As always, The College Voice is looking for more student contributors! Help us better serve the Conn community by sharing your voice. Reach out to us at thecollegevoice@conncoll.edu with any questions or ideas, and come to one of our future meetings on Sunday nights at 7 p.m.

Keep calm!
