The Connecticut College men’s ice hockey team won three of their last four regular season games to secure their spot in the NESCAC tournament. Dayton Arena was packed for the Camels’ last home game, as all six seniors were being celebrated, and the team knew that their playoff berth was on the line. The first period was dominated by the Mules of Colby College, made possible by three penalties against Conn. Colby earned a five-minute power play; however, goalie Will McEvoy ‘26 and the Camels’ defense were able to protect the net and survive the first period unscathed. The two teams skated back and forth, each exchanging chances, throughout the second 20 minutes. The game remained scoreless entering the final period. Shortly thereafter, Colby broke the silence five minutes in, with Will Soloway ‘28 recording the goal. The Camels were not going to let this slide, as just 39 seconds later, Matt Lewis ‘28 found Andrew Eberling ‘27, who found the back of the net to tie the game. The Camels’ added one on with five minutes remaining. John Russo ‘25 connected with Jack Luca ‘25, who was able to get two shots off. Luca’s second shot was blocked and fell to Will Lawrence ‘28. Lawrence ‘28 was able to convert and give Connecticut College the lead. The Mules were not giving up just yet, pulling their goalie and evening the game with a minute left and forcing the competition into overtime. The two sides both had chances in overtime, but the Mules forced McEvoy ‘26 to come up with five saves. Successful, the game went into a shootout. Both teams missed their first shot, and McEvoy, once again, came up big for the Camels, stopping the Mules’ second attempt. Luca ‘25 put the Camels in front as a result of his clever stickhandling, and McEvoy ‘26 closed the deal with one more save to secure a shootout victory for Conn. The Camels’ goalie finished the game with an impressive 52 total saves, while Eberling ‘27 and Lawrence ‘28 both earned a goal apiece. Connecticut College improves to 9-13-2 overall and 7-10-1 in conference play. With a spot in the conference tournament secured, the Camels next take the ice on March 1st at Hamilton College in the NESCAC Quarterfinals.
