The Connecticut College Women’s Water Polo team ended the regular season on a high note with their victory over Wheaton College. After a difficult weekend in Pennsylvania, the Camels returned to New London for their final home game of the season and dropped a 20-6 thrashing on the Lyons. In the first quarter, the Camels started hot, going 7-0, led by a three-headed attack by 2-meters Ainsley Cornwall ‘26 and Sarah Nagel ‘28, who each scored twice, and driver Emma Luna ‘26, who scored the remaining three on the quarter. Beginning the second quarter, Conn College was able to get two more scores to go before Wheaton put its first point on the board. With the Camel lead being so steep from the first quarter, Wheaton’s comeback attempt proved futile as they put up their highest scoring quarter of the game with three shots hitting the back of the net, entirely masked by five Conn Coll goals during the period. Coming out of the half, the wind was taken entirely out of the Wheaton sails, with the Camels holding their opponents to one point during the quarter while following up with another five of their own. Starting the fourth, with the scoreboard flashing, 17-4, the game was effectively over, and Conn picked up their third win of the season, all against the Lyons. The two teams will face off for a fourth meeting this season, this time in Illinois for the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship. Conn has outscored Wheaton 56-19 on the season and has yet to lose to their Massachusetts rivals in their seven recorded matchups dating back to 2024. The goal is for the Camels to take down Wheaton one last time and then play the number one seed, Austin College, for a chance at a major championship upset. Camel fans should tune in for the CWPA Championship on April 11th at 2:00 pm to watch Conn try to make history in the natatorium.
