Prior to delving into the rich, diverse array of content written throughout the next 23 pages, we at The College Voice would like to share some news of our own with the Connecticut College community. On October 12, 2025, we as a managing editorial board made the decision to sign on to an amicus brief entitled “The Stanford Daily Publishing Corp., et al., v. Marco Rubio, in his official capacity as Secretary of State, et al.” In summary, this lawsuit seeks to resist policies put in place to target speech of international student journalists, who have been unfairly faced with retributive legal immigration action following opinions-based article publication. An in-depth explanation of the lawsuit as well as editorial rationale for endorsement can be found in the news section of this edition.
In other news, campus has been abuzz over the annual All-College Symposium, a culminating event for senior students who have chosen to complete a center or pathway program. A sincere congratulations to all participating seniors on a successful end to a long bout of hard work over these past two years. Turning to faculty, Arts Editor Elaine Sandoval Carrasco covers government and international relations professor Eric Fleury’s talk on power, the presidency, and the current United States political climate. This edition’s lengthy SGA column, written by News Editor Theo Andres, brings a broad range of upcoming changes to light, including reinstatement of the college-wide on-campus housing requirement (to be enforced this upcoming academic year). As always, the briefs section summarizes the information students may have missed, from administrative reorganization of the Division of Retention and Success to nationwide election results.
In the opinions section, Opinions Editor Claire Hloytak writes about her experience as a member of the women’s club rugby team and the positive impact playing a club sport has brought her. Staff Writer Kendall Ziady ‘26 provides a pop culture update in her pop culture column.
As the fall sports season winds to a close, the Camels have once again seen a great deal of success across various athletic pursuits. Co Editor-in-Chief Kevin Lieue brings readers into the action-packed victory of both Connecticut College’s very own Women’s cross-country team—who recently placed 3rd at the NESCAC championship held on Camel turf at local outdoor course Harkness State Park—as well as Connecticut College Club Hockey’s highly anticipated triumph over the Coast Guard Academy. Sports Editor Ellis Iurilli-Hough discusses camel rowing placement in Boston’s iconic Head of the Charles Regatta, while Staff Writer Matteo Feola ‘29 grants readers a look inside the athletic careers of rowing team members John McCormack ’26 and Jake Cataldi ‘28. In Southeast Scoreboard, Sports Editors Luke Corless and Ellis Iurilli-Hough cover the men’s soccer team’s valiant performance at the NESCAC Championships, where they fell just short in a 0-1 loss to finish runner-up to #1 ranked Tufts University.
