Pop Culture Column #6

Couresty of Zeynab Zamanloo

This week’s topics include: “Wuthering Heights”, Bad Bunny’s Halftime show and an upcoming Hannah Montana anniversary show.

The film adaptation of “Wuthering Heights” released February 13th, starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. There has been lots of backlash over certain choices for the film, specifically aimed at the director, Emerald Fennell (who also directed “Saltburn”). In addition to some critiques on the emotional complexity lacking from the movie adaptation, one of the biggest public issues with the film is that the character of Heathcliff, a man of color, is played by a white actor (Elordi). Despite mixed responses on certain choices from Fennell, the film continues to be in the spotlight and has gained positive reviews.

Bad Bunny’s Halftime show during the 2026 Super Bowl on February 8th was a major success, with record breaking viewership. His artistry shined through in a heartwarming production inspired by Puerto Rican culture. Despite the unfortunate Patriots loss, the show was both impressive and meaningful.

Miley Cyrus has also announced an upcoming Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary special! Many details still to come, but us childhood Hannah Montana fans are very excited about this special!
