SGA Update Column

Thursday, September 10th marked the Student Government Association’s first meeting of the 26-27 academic year. The meeting opened as usual with a recitation of the honor code and attendance count before jumping in to committee reports. The Academic and Administrative Procedures Committee (AAPC) reviewed the outcomes of their two meetings this academic year, which covered the continued grandfathering in of upperclassmen students who arrived to Conn when music lessons were offered for free by the Music department, and floated the idea of having first years sign up for an additional class when they register for FYS to alleviate the competitiveness of fall first year registration.

Student Activities Council (SAC) briefly discussed their upcoming events calendar before the group moved on to Athletics, Officer’s, and President’s reports, the latter of which discussed a potential revamp to the First Year Representative position. Members formally introduced themselves and their positions on SGA before moving on to the Ad Hoc Committee, a group for reforms and solving issues. They discussed the responsibilities of club and academic representatives before covering how to write a resolution and requirements of elected SGA positions. All in all, it was a productive first meeting back on campus, with much more to come.
