As the weather starts to change and sights of spring begin to pop up around campus, Connecticut College’s eight spring sports teams are preparing for their chances in the spotlight. It is these dedicated student-athletes who will remain on campus for the majority of spring break to be ready for the competition they will face later down the road. Let’s take a look at each team’s status and the projections for the 2025 spring sports season!

Women’s Lacrosse

The Connecticut College Women’s Lacrosse team ended their 2024 season with a 7-8 overall record and a 2-8 NESCAC conference record. Their two conference wins came after defeating the Bowdoin Polar Bears and the eighteenth-ranked Trinity Bantams. Despite these impressive victories, the Camels were unable to qualify for the NESCAC tournament. Sydney Weber ’25 shares with The College Voice that the “team’s expectations for this season are to always give everything our best effort and do better than prior years.” Weber ’25 goes on to state that the team aims to make NESCACs and to be able to participate in post-season play this year. Caroline Bruce ’25, touches on the loss of an All-American goalie, Violette Nidds ‘24, “who made a massive impact on our defensive unit over the last four years.” Weber ’25 adds that the team is “working on rebuilding [their] defense and learning to trust one another so [they] can perform at [their] best.” The Camels’ first game of the season will take place on March 1st at Tufts University.

Men’s Lacrosse

The 2024 season for the Connecticut College Men’s Lacrosse team ended abruptly after not qualifying for the NESCAC tournament. The team finished the year with an overall record of 5-9 and a 1-9 conference record. Their sole conference win came against Bates College, an exciting game with a final score of 13-12. However, the team is certainly looking to improve this outcome and progress to postseason play during the 2025 season. Led by Captain Gus Williams ’25 and fourteen other seniors, the Camels are in a position to make significant progress in comparison to last year. Men’s lacrosse is back in action on March 1st, taking on the Jumbos of Tufts University in Medford, Boston.

Women’s Outdoor Track and Field

Connecticut College’s Women’s Track and Field team has established itself as a force to be reckoned with. Last spring season, the women finished 8th at the NESCAC Championships and 6th at the New England Division III Championships. Shortly thereafter, Alexa Estes ’26 and Grace McDonough ’26 traveled to Myrtle Beach, SC, for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. Down South, both Estes ’26 and McDonough ’26 represented the Camels well, with Estes ’26 finishing 7th in the 800m finals, securing her spot as an All-American. The 2025 indoor season has been nothing short of successful, with the Distance Medley Relay team of Abby Fernald ’26, Lilla Kate Tucker ’27, Estes ’26, and McDonough ’26 setting a new school record of 11:41:08 and working their way towards nationals in March. Estes ’26 and McDonough ’26 have both had their share of individual school records, with Estes ’26 running the fastest 1K in Division III history. Looking ahead to the outdoor season, the Camels are looking to continue their dominant stretch and make a name for themselves in the NESCAC and throughout the country. Estes ’26 serves as a captain of the team alongside Caitlin Bird ’26, Liz Freeman ’26, Abby Ilusorio ‘25, Grace Mattaliano ‘25, and Brenna O’Brien ‘26. The outdoor season kicks off on March 22nd at Wesleyan University.

Men’s Outdoor Track and Field

The Connecticut College men’s track and field team is coming off a strong indoor season, with multiple school records and impressive performances. Matt Scardigno ’25 recently set a new school record in the 3k with an incredible time of 8:09:76. Chris Koskinen ’25, an unstoppable pole vaulter, is currently ranked seventh in DIII in the pole vault and is looking to solidify his spot in Rochester, NY for the 2025 Division III Indoor Championships. Last spring, the men finished 8th at the NESCAC Championship and 4th at the New England Division III Championships. Led by captains Jacob Bright ’25, Jayson Firmin ’25, Harry Harwood ’25, Graham Josephson ’25, Blake Rogers ’25, Scardigno ’25, and Koskinen ’25, the Camels are looking to carry their momentum straight into the outdoor spring season. The first outdoor meet will take place on March 22nd at Wesleyan University.

Women’s Water Polo

The spring sports season also features the Connecticut College Women’s Water Polo team. The Camels are coming off a solid 2024 season, finishing with an overall record of 10-7. The team ended last year with a 5th place finish at the CWPA Championships. Led by Senior Meiling Bottan ’25, the women are looking to improve their record from last season and become a stronger team in the water. The Camels are back in action on March 1st vs. Iona University in Lott Natatorium.

Women’s Rowing

With prime access to Kohn Waterfront and the beautiful Thames River, the women’s rowing team is eager to get back on the water for the 2025 spring season. The team competed at well-known races throughout the 2024 fall season, including Head of the Snake, Wormtown Chase, and the infamous Head of the Charles in Boston, MA. The Camels are led by captain Emily Fairfield ’26. Fairfield ’26 is joined by three seniors: Araceli Alcaide ’25, Edie Banovic ’25, and Sophie Mulvihill ’25, who aid in the leadership of the team. Women’s rowing kicks off their spring season competition on April 5th at Clark University in Worcester, MA.

Men’s Rowing

Much like the women’s side, the Connecticut College Men’s Rowing team is certainly ready to get their 2025 spring season underway. The men also had strong showings at Head of the Snake, Head of the Charles, and the Wormtown Chase in the 2024 fall season. The men are back in action over spring break on March 22nd, where they will be traveling to Coventry, CT, for a race hosted by the University of Connecticut.

Women and Coed Sailing

After falling short last spring, women’s and coed sailing are looking to turn the tides and sail their way into Boston for Nationals at the end of the school year. The 2024 fall season was beneficial preparation for the team, as they competed often and hosted a home regatta in which they finished in 14th place. The sailing teams are led by seniors Alejandro Amezcua ’25, Coco Carragher ’25, Liam Gronda ’25, and Aurora Kreyche ’25. The teams will host the first spring regatta of the season, which will take place on March 1st and 2nd at the Kohn Waterfront. Look out for the colorful sails on the Thames River soon!
