Pop Culture Column #5

Welcome back from a much-needed winter break! We’ve missed a lot of pop culture moments during that time, so this column of this edition will be a rapid-fire list of pop culture moments since we have been gone (back to normal next time)!

Movies: Timothée Chalamet starred in the film Marty Supreme and was awarded a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Sinners has scored 16 Oscar nominations in a variety of categories. The press tour for Wuthering Heights, starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, has officially commenced, and fans are already comparing their seemingly “codependent” relationship to Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s relationship during the Wicked press tour. One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo Dicaprio has also been a hit and was nominated for 13 Oscars.

Television: Heated Rivalry (that’s it). Also, many new seasons of anticipated shows! Some of which include: Tell Me Lies, Euphoria (coming soon), Love Island All Stars (UK), The Pitt, Bridgerton and Emily in Paris

Music: Harry Styles released his new song “Aperture,” a precursor to his upcoming album; he has also announced his tour dates for 2026! Olivia Dean continues to shine brightly in the music industry, clearly shown by the inability of many fans to obtain tickets for her upcoming tour once they went on sale (myself included). Bruno Mars also released a new single, “I Just Might,” and has a new album releasing at the end of February.

Drama, Relationships and more: Texts between Taylor Swift and Blake Lively were made public due to a legal proceeding between Lively and her former colleague, Justin Baldoni. Brooklyn Beckham, son of Victoria and David Beckham, has come out to expose his family for allegedly not being accepting of his wife and caring most about how their family is portrayed in the press. Tom Brady and Alix Earle were seen and filmed having a cozy conversation at a club on St. Barts Island. And lastly, the Patriots are headed to the Super Bowl, playing against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, February 8th.
