- The Ad Hoc Committee on Student Representation Reformation has made a survey (that only takes a couple minutes) to gauge student opinions on proposed changes to the structure of SGA. Please refer back to last edition’s article, or the description in the survey, for questions, or contact your House Senator/any SGA member with questions– an important part of the new system would be having representatives from clubs meet with SGA Chairs, and adding in new or changed layers of representation from House Senators, academic representatives, Class Council, and more. All students will vote on this new system, so please get involved now and make your voice heard!
- The Dining Committee has unfortunately not been active this semester, so Peter Johnson, Resident District Manager with Dine at Conn, came to speak to us about getting it up and running again, as this has led to a breakdown of communication between Chartwells and students.
- As the housing lotteries start up, please make sure you are reading through the housing booklet so that you know about any dates, forms, or instructions you should be aware of! This will ensure that you can have the best possible outcome, as there have been a number of changes this year– there’s a very helpful chart that includes important timelines and dates.
- SAC events coming up include Camel Olympics on Saturday, April 11, from 2-4 p.m. on Knowlton Green, where there will be inflatables, games, and some free t-shirts, and Camel Feud on Saturday, April 18, at 8pm in Cro 1941, where clubs can win money. And, of course, Floralia.
- Muslim Students Association presented to us a resolution for RSO status, so they can acquire the funding to continue offering religious programming, educational and interfaith events, and to continue providing a space for the Muslim community on campus. We voted to approve their RSO status.
- We discussed some faculty concerns that self-scheduled exams promote cheating and AI usage, and how to come up with ways to prevent academic dishonesty and promote the Honor Code, so that we can continue to enjoy the privilege of having self-scheduled exams, which students value deeply.
- The Office of Sustainability has many fun events planned for Earth Week, including: a tie-dye event on Larabee Green on April 20th; a race-to-recycle on the 21st; a main celebration on the 22nd including free stuff and food trucks on Larabee Green where you can win prizes and listen to music, and sign up for the bike lending program; a Thrifty Camel popup for Floralia outfits and GNCE SIP presentations in Olin on the 23rd; a transit open forum in Hood Dining and a Princess Mononoke screening in Olin basement on the 24th; and rides to the Groton Public Library Earth Expo on the 25th.
- The Transit Video Competition will end April 27th. Additionally, you can sign up to work Give-n-Go the week after classes ends. You do not have to know how to drive, though the skill is preferred!
- CREDO is coming back to campus, and it is important for all students to go– they’re looking for feedback on how Conn students see the student experience, which will inform future renovations to and construction of residence halls, and other aspects of the Conn experience. Please attend the session Thursday at 4 p.m. in Cro 1962, or join SGA at 7:15, and encourage your friends to attend as well– they need to hear your voices and opinions.
- For the Class of 2026, Senior Week schedule will be released on May 11, so keep an eye out for that. There will also be an event with President Chapdelaine at Humphreys soon, so stay tuned!
- We discussed the DEI co-chair resolution that is still in the works from last semester, and will likely vote on it soon.
