{"id":25155,"date":"2023-02-22T19:55:11","date_gmt":"2023-02-23T00:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecollegevoice.org\/?p=25155"},"modified":"2023-02-22T23:32:32","modified_gmt":"2023-02-23T04:32:32","slug":"who-are-the-trustees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecollegevoice.org\/2023\/02\/22\/who-are-the-trustees\/","title":{"rendered":"Who are the Trustees?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Graphic courtesy of Hannah Foley ’23<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The members of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conncoll.edu\/at-a-glance\/honor-code-shared-governance\/board-of-trustees\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Board of Trustees<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (BoT) are coming to campus on Friday, February 24, to discuss the recent unrest on campus after the cancellation of a fundraising event at the Everglades Club and the resignation of the head of the DIEI division, Dean Rodmon King. Open forums for students, staff, and faculty will be held at separate venues on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. But who is on the Board of Trustees and how did they get there? Digging through the College\u2019s website and reading the school bylaws, we compiled a quick overview of the Board and the bios of each member.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The BoT\u2019s \u201cCharge and Statement of Responsibilities\u201d states: \u201cAs a duly elected body, the Board of Trustees has fiduciary responsibility for the governance of Connecticut College. The Board\u2019s primary functions are to oversee the policies and to steward the financial, physical, and human resources of the College. It is the responsibility of each trustee\u2014acting as one body\u2014to understand the current needs of the College and to implement policies and plans for its future.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trustees are nominated (it\u2019s unclear by who) and then elected by a vote of the existing members. They serve 4-year terms and can serve two consecutive terms before a required one year break. However, there is an exception for those serving as Chair or Vice Chair. After the one year has elapsed, the former member can be reelected again by the existing members of the BoT.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*=elected during President Bergeron\u2019s tenure (not including Young Alumni Trustees)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Debo P. Adegbile<\/b> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">– Chair<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adegbile graduated from Conn in 1991 with a BA in Government. At Conn, Adegbile was a member of the Men\u2019s soccer team. He currently works as a litigation partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP in New York and chairs the firm\u2019s anti-discrimination practice. Adegbile is the chair of the BoT and has served as a member since 2011. Outside of Conn\u2019s BoT Adegbile is a member of the Board of Trustees at New York University School of Law and the former chair of the Board of Trustees at the Manhattan Country School.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Karen D. Quint<\/b> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">– Vice Chair<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quint graduated from Conn in 1987 with a BA in American Studies. Quint currently works as a partner at Spencer Stuart in San Francisco. She joined the BoT in 2012, currently serves as the vice chair, and also previously was a member of the CISLA alumni board and Alumni Association Board of Directors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Seth W. Alvord<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alvord graduated from Conn in 1993 with a BA in Political Science. While at Conn, Alvord was a member of the Men\u2019s rowing team. Alvord now works as a founder and managing partner at Balance Point Capital Partners. Alvord has served as a member of the BoT since 2016. Outside of Conn, Alvord formerly served as vice chair of the Board of Trustees at Northfield Mount Hermon School.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Jessica Archibald<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Archibald graduated from Conn in 1995 with a BA in Math and Economics. While at Conn, Archibald was on the rowing team and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006. Currently, Archibald works as a managing director of the Investment Committee at Top Tier Capital Partners in San Francisco. Archibald joined the BoT in 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Betty Brown Bibbins<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bibbins graduated from Conn in 1973 with a BA in Zoology. Bibbins is a retired healthcare management professional and founder and CEO of DocuComp LLC. Bibbins has served on the BoT since 2018. Outside of Conn, Bibbins also serves as the president of the Board of Directors at Eastern Shore Rural Health Systems Inc and was a former member of the Advisory Board of the American College of Physician Advisors and the Board of Visitors for Eastern Virginia Medical School.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Maria Wyckoff Boyce<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boyce graduated from Conn in 1985 with a BA in Government and a minor in History. Boyce is currently a partner at Hogan Lovells LLP in Houston, Texas, and was elected to the BoT in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Ethan W. Brown<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brown graduated from Conn in 1994 with a BA in History and Government. While at Conn, Brown was a member of the Men\u2019s basketball team and a publisher of the Connecticut College Review. Brown is the founder, CEO, and president of Beyond Meat and joined the BoT in 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Isaac (Chip) H. Clothier V<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clothier graduated from Conn in 1979 with a BA in History and is also a parent of a 2010 graduate. Clothier is currently the managing partner and co-founder of HFC Executive Search. Clothier was elected as President of the Alumni Association Board of Directors in 2022. This position receives an automatic seat on the BoT without election by current BoT members. Outside of Conn, Clothier previously served on the Board at Agnes Irwin School.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Lynn Cooley<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cooley graduated from Conn in 1976 with a BA in Zoology. While at Conn, Cooley was a member of the women\u2019s swimming and basketball teams. Currently, Cooley serves as the Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Vice Provost for Postdoctoral Affairs, and as a professor of Cell Biology at Yale University. Cooley joined the BoT in 2015.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Loulie (Dodie) Sutro Crawford<\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crawford graduated from Conn in 1989 with a BA in Economics and Art History. Crawford currently works in advertising and consulting and was elected to the BoT in 2018. Before serving on the BoT, Crawford was a member of the Finance Committee for former President Guadiani\u2019s Five-Year Strategic. Crawford is also a former member of the BoT at the Drew School.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Lawrence (Nat) B. Damon III<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Damon graduated from Conn in 1993 with a BA in American Studies and Psychology. While at Conn Damon was a member of the men\u2019s rowing team and Co Co Beaux. Damon is currently the executive director of Reach Academics and has served on the BoT since 2021. Outside of Conn, Damon is on the Board of Governors at Soho Parish primary School and the Episcopal School of Los Angeles and is a former board member at the Beacon School and Valley Charter Schools.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Mark D. Fallon<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fallon graduated from Conn in 1992 with a BA in Government. While at Conn, Fallon was a member of the men\u2019s basketball team. Fallon is currently the CEO and Chairperson at APTIM Government Solutions LLC and has served on the BoT since 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Marisa Fari\u00f1a<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fari\u00f1a graduated from Conn in 1993 with a BA in Political Science. After graduating from Conn, Fari\u00f1a served as a Young Alumni Trustee until 1996. Fari\u00f1a currently works as the managing director of Washington Post Live and was elected to the BoT in 2022. Outside of Conn, Fari\u00f1a serves as the chair of the Brooklyn Book Festival board, a board member at Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, and a member of the board at Horizons.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Gregory J. Gigliotti<\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gigliotti graduated from Conn in 1988 with a BA in Economics and International Relations. While at Conn, Gigliotti founded the ski team. Gigliotti is currently the CEO, CIO, and founding partner of Xtellus Advisors in New York. He joined the BoT in 2020 and also serves on the BoT of Soundwaters, LISOT Sailing Foundation, and was a former trustee at the Stanwich School.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Rob Hale<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hale graduated from Conn in 1988 with a BA in History and is also a parent to a 2020 graduate. While at Conn Hale was class president and played men\u2019s varsity lacrosse. Hale is the Co-founder and president of Granite Telecommunication, the Owner of FoxRock Properties, the Founder of Copley Equity Partners, and the Owner and Director of the Celtics. Hale was elected to the BoT in 2015 and has currently or formerly held leadership positions at Boston Children\u2019s Hospital, the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Deerfield Academy, and Brigham & Women\u2019s Hospital.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Alice W. Handy\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Handy graduated from Conn in 1970 with a BA in Economics. Handy is the Founder and Former President and CEO of Investure. Handy was elected to the BoT in 2021 and currently serves on the BoT of American Friends of the National Gallery London and Charlottesville Area Community Foundation. Handy also serves on the investment boards at St. Judes Hospital, The Thomas Jefferson Foundation, the United Way of Greater Charlottesville, Sweet Briar College, and the Smithsonian Institution.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Kim-An Hernandez\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hernandez graduated in 1999 with a BA in Government. While at Conn, Hernandez played soccer, lacrosse, and basketball and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017. Hernandez currently works as the Principal and Chief Procurement Officer at Vanguard. Hernandez was elected to the BoT in 2022 and also serves on the boards of GRCIE, OPEN, Vanguard\u2019s LGBTQIA+ ERG, and the Fund for the School District of Philadelphia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Steven W. Jacobson<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jacobson graduated from Conn in 1985 with a BA in Economics and Government and is also a parent of a 2022 graduate. While at Conn, Jacobson served as a member of SGA for all four years. Jacobson currently works as the Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO of Sankaty Light Consumer Health Inc. Jacobson was elected to the BoT in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Samirah Jaigirdar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jaigirdar graduated from Conn in 2022 with a BA in International Relations and Global Islamic Studies with a minor in Arabic Studies and was a CISLA scholar. While at Conn, Jaigirdar was SGA President and on the 2021 Dean of the College search committee. Jairgirdar is currently a student at Harvard Divinity School and has served as a Young Alumni Trustee since 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Jonathan A. Krane<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Krane graduated from Conn in 1990 with a BA in Art History. While at Conn Krane was a member of the tennis team. Krane is the Founder and CEO of KraneShares and was elected to the BoT in 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Sydney L. Lamb<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lamb graduated from Conn in 2021 with a BA in American Studies and a minor in Sociology. While at Conn Lamb was on Honor Council for all four years and was the Creative Director and Co-President of the Women\u2019s Empowerment Initiative. Lamb is currently a staffer for Congresswoman Jahana Hayes and has served as a Young Alumni Trustee since 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>John D. Linehan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Linehan graduated from Amherst with a BA in Economics and from Stanford with an MBA. Linehan is the parent of three Conn students from the classes of 2018, 2023, and 2024. Currently, Linehan works as the CIO for Equity, portfolio manager for Equity Income, and U.S. Concentrated Large-Gap Equity Income Strategies at T. Rowe Price. Linehan was elected to the BoT in 2018 and also serves on the board of St. Mary\u2019s Seminary and University, Baltimore Equitable Society, and was a former board member at the Odyssey School, Friends School of Baltimore, Gilman School, Baltimore Equitable Scholarship Trust, and South Baltimore Homeless Shelter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Jonathan D. McBride<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McBride graduated from Conn in 1992 with a BA in History and Economics. While at Conn, McBride was the captain of the men\u2019s soccer team. McBride is currently a partner at Heidrick & Struggles, served on the BoT from 2000-2009, and rejoined the BoT in 2020. McBride is also a member of the Defy Boundaries Campaign Committee.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Sarah A. Mudho<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mudho graduated from Conn in 1998 with a BA in International Relations. While at Conn Mudho was a member of the women\u2019s basketball team. Mudho currently works as General Counsel at Wellspring Capital Management in New York and has served on the BoT since 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Devon Danz Preston<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Preston graduated from Conn in 1993 with a BA in Environmental Science and a minor in English. Preston is a court-appointed special advocate with Marin CASA and has served on the BoT since 2021. Preston is a member of boards at Insight Garden Program and Children for Change.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Leslie Rosen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rosen graduated from Conn in 2002 with a BA in Government. Rose currently works as a Principal at Rosen Harbottle Commercial Real Estate and serves as the Director of the Rita and Herbert Rosen Family Foundation. Rosen was elected to the BoT in 2020 and also serves on the boards of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, Hillel at the University of Washington, New West School for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing, the Isador Simon Family Foundation, and Jewish Family Services Seattle.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Peter D. Skaperdas\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skaperdas graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in Economics and Math and from the University of Wisconsin with an MS in Economics. Skaperdas is also the parent of a 2017 graduate. Skaperdas currently works as Senior Vice President and Private Wealth Advisor at UBS Financial and became a member of the BoT in 2017. Skaperdas is also the past president of the Board of Directors of New Canaan YMCA and Connecticut Grand Opera Orchestra.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Dwayne C. Stallings<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stallings graduated from Conn in 1999 with a BA in History. While at Conn, Stallings was a member of the club basketball team, in theater, a member of Unity House, and the captain of the men\u2019s varsity basketball team for which he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018. Currently, Stallings works as a Raymond Jame Financial Advisor and Vice President of Liberty Bank in Mystic, Connecticut. Stallings has served on the BoT since 2018.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Diane E. Stratton<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stratton graduated from Conn in 1991 with a BA in Studio Art. While at Conn, Stratton was a member of the women\u2019s field hockey team, the indoor and outdoor track teams, and the Schwiffs. Stratton works as a jewelry designer and owner of Siane Stratton Jewelry. Elected to the BoT in 2022, Stratton is also a member of the boards at the Michael H. Flanagan Foundation and Arts Alive Theater.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Shyanne T. Temple<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Temple graduated from Conn in 2020 with a BA in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology. While at Conn, Temple was a part of the Science Leaders Program, CISLA, CC Gospel Choir, and WOCC. Currently, Temple is applying to medical school and has served as a Young Alumni Trustee since 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Maarten D. Terry<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terry graduated from Conn in 1983 with a BA in Sociology-Based Human Relations. While at Conn, Terry was the president of Unity House and Umoja. Terry currently works as a marketing executive and president of Converge Marketing Services. Elected in 2021 to the BoT, Terry also serves as a board member at United Way of New Canaan and the former Vice President of Better Chance of New Canaan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Rajneesh Vig<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vig graduated from Conn in 1993 with a BA in Economics. Vig currently works as the Managing Director in Global Credit Platform at BlackRock Inc. and the President, Chairman, and CEO of BlackRock-TCP Capital Corp. Vig was elected to the BoT in 2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>Leslie E. Wong<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wong graduated with a BA in Psychology from Gonzaga University, an MS from Eastern Washington University, and a Ph.D. from Washington State University. Prior to retiring, Wong worked as the President of San Francisco State University and was elected to the BoT in 2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Pamela D. Zilly<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zilly graduated from Conn in 1975 with a BA in Economics and History. Before retiring, Zilly was the Senior Managing Director in the Restructuring & Reorganizing Advisory Group at BlackStone Group LP. Zilly served on the BoT from 2005 to 2018 and was reelected in 2020.
